After 3 years, it’s time to reflect on the first full-kitted contact season and our first year back in AFI Premier Division as well as our Glas Bowl I and Emerald Bowl VII winning Flag Football Team. Club achievements over the past 12 (or maybe 36) months will be celebrated and those individuals who have shone through in all different aspects of each team, will be rewarded. All awards are voted on by club members (players, coaches & volunteers) so each winner will be decided by their peers. The shortlists are drawn up by a combination of Head Coach & Co-Ordinators as well as Board Members for the Clubman of the Year award. Senior Team Awards Shortlists: Rookie of the Year, sponsored by SB Decor Last year's winner: Stephen Brennan This award is always keenly contested as all the newbies vie for their chance to shine despite only joining the team and learning the game this year...or since the IAFL1 Bowl in 2019. Our rookies have really made an impact on the senior team and this award really could go to all of the guys listed. Christopher Quinn (DT) Jamie ‘Squid’ Morris (WR) Austin Ramsey (S) Jason Haire (DB) Sean Slater (LB) Seamy Hutchinson (DE) Clubman of the Year, sponsored by P.Ink Tattoos Last year's winner: Mark Beattie This award is one of extreme sentimental value and goes to the person who has been most active around the club and helping the club push forward in any way, whether that be through coaching, volunteering or helping in any aspect of the two Cowboy teams. Jason Duddy, Board Member Scot Buchanan, Club President Greg Loughran, Senior Team Coach & Club Secretary Manny Bell, Senior Team Coach & Board Member Pete Breslin, Senior Team Coach Balls of Steel Award, sponsored by The Hive NI Last year's winner: Jo Buchanan This award is one of the newer awards to the Cowboys list and is awarded to the player who has shown the most steel during 2022, whether it be from playing both ways when injuries have kicked in, to showing the biggest mettle of any player. This award is usually the most interesting as the winner could come from anywhere...much like Shayne Mone on a blitz. Luis Alberto (WR/KR) Odhran O’Kane (WR/KR) Geoff Lindsay (DT) Richard Lilburn (RB/DE) Austin Ramsey (S) Shayne Mone (LB) Terry Lynch Offensive Lineman of the Year, sponsored by Bernadette Loughran Last year's winner: Scott Buchanan Another of the more recent awards, named after the legendary Cowboy Terry Lynch. This is awarded to the best offensive lineman throughout 2022, always keenly contested between the big lads up front and this award always provides some internal, friendly competition between the hogs. Ruairi Conolly (OG) Darren McKeever (C) Sean Bryne (OT) Chris Bell (OG) Scott Buchanan (OT) Offensive MVP, sponsored by Jason Duddy Last year's winner: Peter Loughran This award is for the best offensive player throughout 2022 and is an award of distinction throughout the club with some of the best players to wear orange & navy lifting this award throughout the years. Richard Lilburn (RB) Odhran O’Kane (WR) Luis Alberto (WR) Neil Maxwell (WR) Peter Loughran (QB) Defensive MVP, sponsored by The Don't Take Offence; Defensive Player of the Year Last year's winner: Shayne Mone This award is for the best defensive player through 2022 and is one of the more shared about awards in the club's history. This is awarded to the player that performed the best, most consistent and showed the values that are imperative to being a Cowboy.
