By Aimee Allen The Cowboys flag team head to Dublin tomorrow to compete in the EBC V Playoffs after an undefeated regular season saw them crowned EBC North Champions. Having finished the overall league as 2nd seed, the team by-passes the wildcard round and are straight into the semi-finals, playing for a spot in the EBC Championship game. We caught up with flag team manager Jason Duddy to get his thoughts before the big day. How excited are you for the EBC Playoffs? “I'm very excited! I can’t wait for the ‘Boys to go down and do themselves proud while also showing everyone what we are about.” What have the Cowboys been doing to prepare for the big day? “I know the coaches in the team who are more experienced than I am (Niall and Jo) have been hosting training sessions and making sure the whole team are on form. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a few plays up my sleeve so depending on the situation they might come out...watch this space!” Do you think that you have a good chance against your opponents? “I think everyone who has got to the finals have a chance! Although I do feel we are one of the favourites. I won't let that get into our guy’s heads though. We tied against the Knights last game day and that felt like a loss as we lost our winning streak, so we won't be looking to taste defeat on finals day and certainly won't go down easy - if at all.” What got you into Flag Football? “It started at our awards night actually. I heard they were looking for a team manager for the flag team and thought it might as well be someone who knows the players and is at the club already. I'm still new to this but if I'm honest I'm loving it, and really enjoy watching it as well. I'm very tempted to play it and can't wait for our club flag tournament (Cowan Cup) so I can show off my skills (or lack thereof!).” Do you have any final words of encouragement for your team? “Go out, play your game, play smart and don't over think. If someone makes a mistake don't jump on them, encourage them, they could end up winning the game for us. Utilise your strengths and obviously have fun!” Best of luck to Jason and the whole team!
