Big day tomorrow for the Cowboys flag teams, as after a tough season, both teams have made the playoffs, with the A Team securing a 7-1 regular season record and the B Team getting a 5-1 regular season record. We chatted to Flag Team Rep Niall Quinn to get his thoughts on the season and the big day tomorrow... Niall Quinn (left) and Jo Buchanan (right) with the Emerald Bowl after last years successful finals day. Niall, firstly congratulations. Both flag teams have got into their respective finals days. You must be thrilled with the ‘Boys?
I'm thrilled that both teams have worked hard and done themselves and me proud getting to the finals. We are far from the biggest teams in the EBC and GBC but the boys have worked hard together to get to the finals. For the A Team, another year and another finals day, but for the B Team, it’s their first season and they’ve reached the finals too. You must be happy with that, especially considering the number of rookies and inexperience on the B team? The B team lead by Ben Fallon (last years A Team QB) who wanted to concentrate on the new players to flag has shown the guys the ropes on both offensive and defensive. I am proud of their achievements this season and have high hopes for their up coming games. A Team has been clicking again this year, what has been the ticket to their continued success year in and year out? A Team have a good history working together over a number of years and with a few new additions have fitted in well to the team. Having fun playing football is the best way to build morale win or lose. With both teams losing a game in their final regular season blitz, do you think this is the wake up call the ‘Boys need? Losing a game at the end of the regular season was a well needed wake up call to both teams. It definitely focuses everyone's minds on the games ahead. Finally, anything you want to say to the guys, or indeed, the Cowboys Family as a whole? Firstly thanks to all our support, both from within the club and outside, it’s really helped us. Secondly then, the only thing I’ll say to the guys is that we win as a team and lose as a team - there’s no I in teamwork, and we need everyone playing at their best tomorrow. I am personally very proud to be part of the Cowboy's and know we have each others backs. Thanks Niall, and all the best to the flag squads tomorrow. The B Team faces Trojan 2s in the wildcard round at 11am, and the A Team semifinal is due to kickoff at 12.15. The games are being live-streamed on Facebook, so check our Facebook page for the link!
