The flag team have returned from their weekend away to Waterford with two victories, and with that completing their regular season schedule. The team finish this year with 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss totalling 19 points – this is 1 more point than when the regular season finished last year. The ‘Boys currently sit top of EBC North, with the Eagles just behind and with 2 games in hand.
So where does that leave us in the Playoff picture? 6 teams get to the playoffs – the 4 division winners then the 2 best runners up. While we finished with a better record than last year, the on form Eagles are favourites to win EBC North as they only need 3 points from the remaining 6 available to them. This will more than likely mean we will be looking at contesting for a runner up spot. What’s our chances? They look pretty good, all other teams except the Eagles and UCD have already registered at least one loss so pressure will be on for them not to lose again. At the moment, it appears to be a 3 team fight for two spots between ourselves, the Mud Dogs and Vipers. UCD seem to have control of EBC East so one more loss for the Vipers could see them not make the playoffs at all. Mud Dogs and Rebels will fight it out for the EBC South title, they have a head to head game on 14 January which is a must win for both. Reapers control the EBC West with a 6 point lead and a game in hand over Mullingar, who will need a miracle to bring themselves back into the fold. Pressure is now off the Cowboys as all we can do is wait and see how things play out after Christmas. The annual Cowan Cup (club member’s flag tournament) is scheduled for Sunday 18th December, contact Peter Cowan if you wish to be in the draft!
