Head Coach Greg Loughran braving the elements against the Wexford Eagles earlier in the season. Pic credit: Eamon McCormick Coming into the bowl game at the end of this week, it’s time to hear from the Head Coach Greg Loughran in relation to events in the Semi-Final against Trinity College Dublin and also the incoming Final against the Westmeath Minotaurs.
After the Semi-Final win, Greg was drained after a hard-fought comeback, only for it to be cut short. The Cowboys were far from their best in the first half, conceding generous scores and unfortunate decisions going against last year’s losing finalists. Although, despite the simple nature of Greg’s response when we addressed the comeback, the Coaching staff of the ‘Boys worked their magic and made some crucial adjustments. Regardless of the adjustments, the game was overshadowed by the unfortunate forfeit of the TCD team due to injuries. Head Coach Loughran acknowledged the regrettable circumstances which we reached our 3rd Bowl game in 3 years. “Welfare of the players comes first every time”. Trinity was unable to cope with our Quarterback Pressure and our ruthless tackling in the Defence. Regardless of stage of the season, it is clear that Coach Loughran is constantly trying to better his squad and especially in “a few basic” areas which will be the main focus for training for the remainder of the Bowl countdown. And after various interviews with the squad it is clear that film study will play an essential role in preparations for the final against the Minotaurs. Having played them already this season, the Craigavon Cowboys have enough film for the coach to devise a plan of attack for these tough customers. Make no mistake, this will be an evenly matched final and a great contest, it is a bowl game after all, anything can happen. So be sure to make yourself present at the Navan RFC on Sunday 28th of July for a clash of the titans with the Craigavon Cowboys and the Westmeath Minotaurs. Bleed Orange, Cowboys!!!!
