With only two days to go before Team Ireland u20s face off against USA AFW Elite, we caught up with DB David McMichael to find out more about his football journey so far and how he is feeling about Saturday. First time being called up to represent Team Ireland u20s, how does it feel to be getting international recognition? “It feels great, I’m happy that I have the opportunity to play this sport on an international stage.” You had been playing mostly wide receiver with the Cowboys but have recently changed to cornerback, how have you found the switch? “The switch was difficult but the coaches have been great and helping me improve with every play. I feel coming from wide receiver helped me as I was able to learn the game from the other side of the ball first.” You came through youth football with the Cowboys, how much fun was it to play in the youth league? “I enjoyed playing in the youth league as it provided me with a good environment to learn the game at a slower pace than the senior level. I’d recommend it to anyone young interested in playing football.” You have made the jump to senior football, making your competitive debut last Sunday against the Crusaders, how much did you enjoy tasting the field on Sunday for the senior team? “Nothing in training compared to the atmosphere come game day, it was a fantastic experience with a great result for both the team getting a win and personally for me learning more about the game.” This Saturday is the big game against the travelling team from USA, looking forward to the challenge? “I’m very much looking forward to Saturday to play the Americans, it’ll be a very tough match but we should be up to the challenge.”
